drive name change

drive name change

I clean installed to my drive 'D'. After completeion and reboot, Vista has renamed it 'C' drive and the old 'C' is now 'D'.

No matter what drive or partition Vista is installed on, when you boot into Vista, from IT's point of view it's drive will become C:.
I have a single HD with two partitions. Vista-32 is on the first partition and Vista-64 is on the other.
Whichever Vista I boot to, that partition is always C:.

This is normal when installing Vista from a DVD. It only changes the drive letters within Vista, but does not change anything as far as your partition structure goes. If you right click on my computer, select Manage and open Disk Management, you can see that your partition structure remains as it was. If you are multibooting with XP, when booting into XP, the drive letters will be as they were before.
This has caused some confusion when first installing, but it is not a bug but rather a design feature.

Vista will give whatever drive it is installed on preference, hence the changing from D: to C:
